Vice Presidential Pal-Out

Posted by evankessler on October 2, 2008

For better or worse I’ve  been inundating myself with the 24/7 news channels and following the Presidential election for the past several weeks.  With the Vice Presidential Debate approaching in just a few hours, I’ve seen countless anchors and pundits discuss how Senator and Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Biden should take it easy on Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin due to the fact that the public might misconstrue his handle on the issues and his subsequent need to disprove hers as unnecessary and somewhat demeaning to her womanhood.

I have to heartily disagree here.  While Senator Biden should certainly respect her as a human being, I don’t think he should hold back and treat her any differently than he would another male party candidate.  The notion that Biden not debate Palin as he would any other potential VP candidate is blatantly more sexist than the notion of launching an all out assault on her inexperience and lack of command on the issues.  This isn’t a manners lesson, this is a DEBATE.  Let’s all be grown-ups here.  This is a chance to show the American people that as an experienced United States Senator or the Governor of Alaska that either candidate knows exactly how this country runs and has what it takes to be a successful leader.  I do think a calm demeanor is a part of that, but I also think the need to call bullshit on someone who is clearly using it might be even more valuable to potential voters.

It’s widely known that Joe Biden has the potential to go off on the attack a little and say the wrong thing,   And if the Sarah “Joe Six-Pack” Palin can’t handle that or doesn’t have a response to take advantage of it, it has nothing to do with her being a woman and everything to do with her not being up to the job.  That being said, with the amount of prep she’s been getting I would be amazed if she’s not extremely well prepared for anything thrown at her.  Okay, so maybe I would be given her previous media appearances, either way, I’m looking forward to a spirited debate.
